Great British Insulation Scheme

Great British Insulation Scheme

Save Hundreds on Energy Bills

The UK government has initiated a ground-breaking £1 billion drive, the Great British Insulation Scheme, designed to significantly lower energy bills for more than 300,000 homes in England, Scotland, and Wales. If you've been grappling with high energy costs, now may be the time to consider vital upgrades to your home's insulation. Read on to find out more.

Overview of the Great British Insulation Scheme

This scheme is targeted to provide energy efficiency upgrades for families in specific council tax bands who reside in less energy-efficient homes. These upgrades can save families between £300 to £400 annually on energy bills. The types of insulation offered under the scheme include:

  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
  • Loft insulation
  • Flat or pitched roof insulation
  • Underfloor insulation
  • Solid floor insulation
  • Park home insulation
  • Room-in-roof insulation

Who is Eligible?

Eligibility is largely determined by your property's Council Tax band and Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating. The Great British Insulation Scheme is available for:

  • Families in council tax bands A-D in England
  • Families in council tax bands A-E in Scotland and Wales
  • Properties with an EPC rating of D or below

Both homeowners and tenants (private or housing associations) can apply. However, if you are a tenant, you need your landlord's permission before installing insulation.

How the Scheme Complements Existing Initiatives

This newly launched scheme complements the existing Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, extending the reach of support to a wider range of households. While the ECO scheme offers energy efficiency improvements like insulation, heat pumps, and solar panels to low-income families, the Great British Insulation Scheme expands the Eligibility criteria.

How to Apply for the Scheme

An online checker tool has been launched to help you determine if you are eligible for support under this scheme. The tool will inquire about various aspects, such as:

  • How you heat your home
  • Whether your home has solid or cavity walls
  • If you're receiving any benefits

If you meet the criteria, an assessment of your property will be arranged.

Why You Should Also Consider Eco-Home Network

Eco-Home Network can be a valuable resource if you're seeking additional support. If you're unsure of your eligibility for various schemes, complete our eligibility form or call us on 0333 577 5852. Ofgem regulations frequently change, so you may become eligible for benefits you previously didn't qualify for.

Invest in a Sustainable Future

The Great British Insulation Scheme is not just a short-term financial relief but an investment towards a greener, more sustainable future. The scheme aims to boost the country's energy efficiency levels, providing long-term protection against fuel poverty, especially for the most vulnerable. It's a win-win for your pocket and the planet.
