What is the Pension Credit Guarantee?
Pension Credit Guarantee is a means-tested benefit for people on low earnings who have entered the Pension Credit qualifying age.
You need to live in Britain to qualify for Pension Credit Guarantee.
If you are a couple, you can start receiving Pension Credit if you and your partner have both reached State Pension age and one of you are accepting benefits for housing and over the governments' pension age requirement.
Pension Credit has two sections– The Pension Credit Guarantee. And Pension Savings Credit.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to receive both sections.
Pension Guarantee Credit tops up your income weekly if you are under the low-income threshold (the ECO scheme use this as a qualifying benefit).
Pension Savings Credit is a payment to help people who have already planned for their retirement by having some form of savings or income.
You can claim Pension Credit whether or not you are still working. You are not required to have paid any national insurance contributions.
There are different rules for getting the Guarantee Pension Credit and the Savings Pension Credit.
To claim Guarantee Pension Credit, you must be State Pension age.
The Savings Pension Credit is available to men and women over 64 years old. You must also have reached government pension age however do check their website Gov.UK website for more information on whether couples can qualify.
