ECO scheme: Solar Panel (PV) Grants
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint While Saving Money on Energy Bills
Solar panel (PV) technology is an excellent investment for households across the UK looking to reduce their carbon footprint while saving money on energy bills. The good news is that the UK government is making solar panel grants available for eligible households to install solar panels in their homes under the ECO4 Scheme.
Solar PV is a renewable energy system that generates electricity even on cloudy and overcast days, reducing your reliance on grid energy and saving you money on energy bills. Plus, with a 25-year manufacturer warranty on panels and a 2-year insurance-backed labour guarantee, you can rest assured that your investment is protected.
Qualifications for Solar Panel (PV) Grants
To qualify for a Solar Panel (PV) grant under the ECO scheme, you must:
- Own or privately rent your property and have the landlord's permission to make the relevant changes.
- Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of G, F, or E.
- Be on a low income or have an illness affected by the cold.
Solar PV is an eligible heating measure where the primary heating system in the property before the ECO4 project starts is a heat pump, high heat retention electric storage heaters, or an electric heating system. A solar PV measure can only be installed with plans to install a non-electric primary heat source, and non-electric heating measures cannot occur after a solar PV measure is installed. This is because solar PV measures are only eligible where they reduce heating costs, which would not be the case with a non-electric primary heat source.
Installing solar panels in your home is an excellent way to reduce your carbon footprint, generate clean energy, and save money on energy bills. With roughly £1.3bn worth of funding for 6.5 million eligible households available, there has never been a better time to apply for a solar panel grant.

Solar Panel Grant FAQs
Can I get a grant for solar panels?
A solar panel grant through the Eco4 funding program is possible. However, Eligibility criteria apply, and the grant is only available to individuals who claim an eligible benefit, have a low income, or suffer from an illness affected by the cold. Additionally, the grant only applies to properties with an EPC rating of G, F, or E; two bands must improve the EPC score.
What are the UK government incentives for solar panels?
The UK government has implemented several incentives for solar panels, including reducing the VAT to a zero rate. Additionally, individuals who claim an eligible benefit, are on a low income or have an illness affected by the cold may qualify for further incentives. These incentives are only available to those who meet the Eligibility criteria.
